KANPUR, India (AFP) – On the second day of the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur, India’s Shreyas Iyer stormed to a century on debut.
Iyer seemed at ease at the crease after his overnight total of 75, hitting two fours in the first over off Kyle Jamieson, the Black Caps’ best bowler on Thursday.
Iyer’s unbroken 100 off 157 balls, with 12 fours and two sixes, helped India recover from a first-day hiccup in the afternoon.
Early Friday, the rookie lost his overnight partner Ravindra Jadeja, who couldn’t add to his 50-run score, to Tim Southee’s probing lines.
