LAHORE – PTI supporters have begun congregating at Imran Khan’s Lahore home, Zaman Park, to launch the “Jail Bharo” campaign, or court arrest drive, in an effort to push for elections and protest economic turmoil and the alleged persecution of party officials and employees.
Asad Umar, general secretary of the PTI, and senior vice president Shah Mahmood Qureshi have also resolved to submit to arrest on the first day of the protest.
The Central Punjab arm of the PTI had a significant meeting to finalise the plan for the movement that would begin in the provincial capital and then spread to other regions of the nation. The march will begin on February 23 in Peshawar, Multan on February 25, Gujranwala on February 26, Sargodha on February 27, and Sahiwal on February 28. On March 1, it will make its way to Faisalabad.
Party officials sometimes send messages on their social media accounts in an effort to enlist followers in the drive. A day ago, Mr. Khan encouraged his supporters in a video address to overcrowd jails and destroy the gods of fear.
This is the PTI’s most recent approach after it organised a protracted march and hosted protests in many cities in the wake of Imran Khan’s resignation as prime minister by a no-confidence vote in April of last year.
Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Waleed Iqbal, and Murad Raas, together with 200 employees, would surrender to the police at the Charing Cross in Lahore at 2:00 pm in the first phase. The celebration will start at Zaman Park before moving on to Mall Road. If the government does not take them into custody, PTI leaders and supporters would organise a sit-in at Charing Cross Mall Road.
