SIALKOT — The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared that the public protest would be held at a VIP ground following a police raid on party workers and the detention of Usman Dar.
During a news conference with other party officials, PTI Punjab President Shafqat Mahmood said that police abused peaceful party workers and that the police action was ordered by Khawaja Asif.
The former minister vehemently criticised the detention of PTI officials and workers, demanding their immediate release and reiterating that the march will take place in the city notwithstanding.
The PTI leader stated that they want to use their rights in a democratic way and urged the government to reconsider. He went on to say that the government is hell-bent on employing force and that it will be held accountable if anything bad happened.
Earlier, police detained PTI leader Usman Dar after a skirmish broke out between PTI workers and police at the site of PTI head Imran Khan’s public gathering.
Police stormed the PTI public gathering, stating that the district administration had refused to allow the party to hold a public assembly at the CTI Ground in Sialkot.
In response to PTI employees’ resistance, police used tear gas and baton charges to disperse them.
