SLAMABAD — President Dr Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly just minutes after Prime Minister Imran Khan recommended it.
On Prime Minister Imran Khan’s request, the President dissolved the Lower House of Parliament.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan requested to President Dr Arif Ali to dissolve the National Assembly after Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri rejected the opposition’s no-confidence vote, citing Article 5 of the Constitution.
In his address to the nation following the National Assembly session, he thanked the country on the defeat of the no-confidence vote. He stated that the country should brace itself for early elections.
PM Imran Khan stated that the no-confidence motion was rejected by the Speaker of the Assembly and that “I applaud the entire nation.” He stated that such a plot would prevent this country from succeeding.
“I have urged to the President that the Assemblies be dissolved so that elections may be held and the people can pick who they want to bring,” the Prime Minister added.
“The plot to destabilise this administration has failed,” he continued. “I thank Allah that such a large international conspiracy has failed,” the Prime Minister stated.
